The goal of this book cover project was to select a book series that would be redesigned. I chose The Hunger Games Trilogy because the official book covers seem to be inspired by the movie, but the cover itself is not reflective of the content or dystopian themes found in the story. I this as an opportunity and a challenge since the target audiences are teens and young adults who are familiar with other books about dystopian societies from high school required reading.
To address these challenges I decided to highlight the need for order along with a sense of caution by applying the strong, black, diagonal shapes. This pattern can translate smoothly across the spines and onto the case to make the boxed set more appealing. The type for the titles were created by hand to simulate someone scratching on the walls. The bright colors were selected in contrast with the dark background to stand out, appeal to younger audiences, and progress through the series to represent the fire building through the story.
